Subject:AMiGA is dead. (Well mine certainly is...)

Here's my two cents worth on this topic.

First of all, I think the article on BuisnessWeek made alot of sense,
here's why:

Jim Collas leaves, selling 118,000 shares of Gateway stock totaling some 11
mio. USD. Would he do something like that if he KNEW FOR A FACT that
Gateway was going to release a revolutionary machine in 6 months ? Hell no.
That would be plain stupid. IF this revolutioninary machine was to hit the
streets, he's have tripled his stock over night.

Secondly some people sugested he might have sold the stock to start his new
"buisness oportunity". Right. Jim Collas has held top positions at Gateway
for at least 13 years, he's not starving.

Now all this. I hear you say things like "No worries, we've been through
worse" and shit like "My AMiGA's doing just fine, so Gateway can go fuck
themselves". Well, here's my story:

1 month ago, my AMiGA went haywire. It began with small things, like the
keyboard not functioning properly, then the clock went dead, then the
harddrive died, and 14 days ago, the motherboard finally refused to work
anymore. Great, now what ? I go buy a cheap PC, because I KNOW there's
gonna be an AMiGA out in 5 months, so using a PC for five months isn't that
bad right ? (Boy was I ever wrong.)

My story isn't unique either, I know at least 4 other people that have had
the same experiences, and it's not really that surprising considering that
the NEWEST AMiGA motherboards are a good 5 years old. Shit the one I had in
my A4000 was from '92.

So here's the thing. I can go and buy a "new" AMiGA in the stores for 1994
prices, which is about £1500, then I can get a PPC board which for some
strange reason far beyond me uses expencive 72 pin EDO RAM, and not only
that, but you need to have TWO of them. What kind of shit is that ? Well,
P5 rectified that on thier G4 cards, now at least it's SDRAM, but, in their
infinate wisdom they decided to use LAPTOP RAM ! What kindof ignorant shit
is that ?!?

Then there's AmiRage. An AMiGA clone. With a G4 processor. How's that
qualify as a "clone" ? Offcourse since Wolf Dietrich is so opposed to
revolutionary new computers, the AmiRage isn't going to appeal to a huge
market, which means it's going to cost a shitload.

So I'm left with Iwin and Gateway. To deliver the promise of affordable
home computing.

I know. I'm screwed.
